On February 26th the “Wuh Gine On” People’s Choice Awards returned to the physical stage after celebrating its second virtual showcase.

The creation of the "Wuh Gine On” People’s Choice Awards which was described as a strategic and planned decision by the Founders Empress Zingha and D.J Simmons.

“The introduction of the People’s Choice award was birthed from the creative’s need to be respected and loved. We needed to create a showcase platform that allowed creatives to reach international viewers. I did not want anything like NIFCA I wanted something that you could really feel the pulse of the people and where the community really had an impact on who is deserving of the award,” said Simmons.

The couple revealed that to pull off such an event you needed to do thorough research on the various artistic realms, have an understanding of what the public wants to see, and also be a great team.

“In the beginning, we were of course very green, so we had to prove how hard we were willing to work to sponsors but now our biggest obstacle was following all the COVID-19 protocols, finding sponsors, and other personal issues that were happening offline, but our team took up the responsibility when needed and we pulled off an amazing event,” said Zingha.

Over the years winners of the “Wuh Gine On” People’s Choice Awards have received international work permits and many opportunities due to the growing endorsement by the public and the country’s government officials.

The founders hope to take this award show to both the regional and international television stations.
