After performing as a guest at BAJE to the World Season 2, Barbados Community College student Kyrique Alleyne, shares his experience of being on stage.

On Saturday, April 9th, BAJE to the World held its finals at Golden Square Freedom Park, where many Barbadians gathered to watch artistes perform and showcase their talents.

Despite not being able to perform in the finals of the competition, Kyrique Alleyne was asked to guest perform the song "Working it out," which was written and originally sung by Jude Clarke.

Alleyne told The Wallpaper that this song struck him as an anthem meant to connect to a higher power.

"I see it as my anthem because it deals with the society we live in, it deals with generation struggles; a lot of things are unstable, especially as a lower or middle-class citizen inside of the world," he said.

The 18-year-old said that when he was preparing for the preliminaries of BAJE to the World, he was searching for songs and did not know what he would perform until he got a call.

"When I was given the opportunity to perform in the preliminaries of BAJE to the World, I was searching for songs and I was like, I don't know what I want to do, but in that said moment my phone rang, and at the time, I had that song as my ringtone, and I was like, bingo!" he said.

However, as soon as he got the all-clear to perform the song in the preliminaries, he was unable to perform for medical reasons. Alleyne said he was distraught at the timing of his illness, but the minor setback would provide for a major comeback.

However, he said he was ecstatic when he was called to be a guest performer at the event as it was never about the fame but the impact needed to reach his audience.

"I was so excited... I was heartened that there were other people out there that saw that there is talent in me that needed to be showcased that can impact people, so I took the offer because it was never about the fame, from the start, it was always about the impact and knowing that I have the ability to do that on a larger scale, I was happy to take that offer.", he said.

Alleyne said that he has something in the works and the public should expect a new song in June or July of this year.
