Meteorologist Christophe Martin said sporadic rainfall during the dry season is not an unusual occurrence in Barbados.

He made the comment on Wednesday afternoon as the Barbados Meteorological Service hosted virtual events to mark World Meteorological Day, which is observed annually on March 23rd.

"During the dry season, the Atlantic system is dominant... It generally has fairer conditions, but it also has a bit of instability, which causes cloud patterns to come across, and this will generate some showers," he explained.

Martin added that these conditions often result in "brisk, brief showers, but they can also be moderate in nature from time to time."

He also added that, "this is not uncommon for Barbados... It has been happening for many years and will continue to happen for many years."

The theme for this year’s World Meteorological Day was Early Warning, Early Action.

Martin said their virtual events aimed to "bridge the gap between what is done by the Barbados Meteorological Service and what the public understands."
