Prime Minister Mia Mottley has congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his win at the polls, with hopes to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

President Macron won elections in France yesterday against Marine Le Pen, making history again as the first French president to be re-elected whilst still overseeing his government. In 2017, President Macron became the youngest president of France at the age of 39.

According to GIS Barbados, Prime Minister Mottley congratulated President Macron on his historic win and wished to continue the partnership between Barbados and France in a letter sent today.

“I very much look forward to our two countries continuing our collaboration on matters of international significance, including the climate crisis and the operationalization of mechanisms to ensure appropriate climate financing”, she penned.

Prime Minister Mottley also mentioned that Barbados’ alliance with France will facilitate “the effective implementation of the international developmental agenda, and cooperation in the war against global health crises such as COVID-19 and antimicrobial resistance”.
