Earlier this week, Minister of Health and Wellness, Ian Gooding-Edghill, announced the newest members to serve on the Board of Directors of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

This announcement came, following the first session of the Senate to discuss the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Amendment Bill when Senator Elizabeth Thompson criticized Barbados’ healthcare system.

The board is made up of 15 directors with Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland serving as Executive Chairman and Nigel Whitehall serving as Deputy Chairman.

In a press statement released, Minister Edghill said, “the changes to the board were decided upon after deep, careful and extensive analysis so that it can meet the demanding and varying needs of the people of Barbados”.

He also highlighted a plan in conjunction with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Dr. Sonia Browne, aimed to create an efficient system and improve patient care such as the implementation of electronic medical records and a reduction in the waiting list for surgeries.

Minister Edghill acknowledged the changes cannot be made overnight but promised Dr. Browne will work closely with the board to ensure all goals of this newest initiative are achieved.
