There was a fire at Massy Stores in Rendezvous on Tuesday which caused considerable damage to a section of the location.

It was reported that around 5:36 am, a passer-by saw smoke coming from the building and alerted fire officials.

Fortunately, the incident occurred right next to the Worthing Fire Station so the matter was quickly resolved.

Station Officer Tremelle Perch, who was the commanding officer on duty at the Worthing Fire Station, explained that due to the nature of the fire, an investigation was being conducted by the police and as a result, he could not disclose certain key information at this time.

However, Perch said two trucks were dispatched to neutralize the blaze which was seemingly caused by one of the freezers in the store.

“Under the command of the Chief Fire Officer, three command officers, and twelve officers from the stations, the blaze was quickly put under control by the fire suppression team using the main extinguishing agent as water," Perch said.

As it stands, the management of Massy Stores has issued a notice to the public informing them the location will be closed for the time being to accommodate further investigation and subsequent repairs and renovation.

No persons were harmed in the incident.
