Many beauty practitioners claim to reap no major benefits from the announcement of a modified Crop Over season.

Owner of the fashion design company, “That’s Moda”, Kelsey Leacock said that the pandemic impacted her sales as she made most of her profit from events but once citizens and people working within in the health industry started requesting handmade masks her profit margin stayed at such a level that she could continue putting herself through school and supporting herself and her lifestyle.

“Yes, the fact that there wasn’t a Crop Over season affected my profit but not in such a significant way; there were still the one-off events and persons were still going out and needed outfits to wear,” said Leacock.

The designer added that her clientele will not really change or increase in a major way. Leacock is aware and thankful for the international clientele and other customers she will gain due to the events like “We Ting” and Crop Over but she said it will just be business as usual.

Treleena Lewis, owner of Lyna Luxe nail salon agreed with those sentiments. Lewis said that her clients were begging her to open her doors when Barbados experienced its initial nationwide shutdown.

“To be quite honest my clients and I think most women, in general, are of the opinion that once they feel pretty their confidence and mental health are high; so, no matter the season people want to look their best which in turn increases the amount of profit I make,” said Lewis.

The nail technician said when she reviewed her business’ profit margins the lack of a Crop Over season did not impact her, but she is excited to see her international clients who she has not seen due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

Self-employed make-up artist, Yaheisa Jones shared that even though she too did not have much of a profit drop she wished to use this time to gain new international clientele coming in for the festivities to ensure that if the worse was to happen she will have something to fall back on.
