Barbados’ team at this year’s CARIFTA Games has won 28 medals; nine gold, eight silver and 11 bronze.

This would be 11 more medals than what they won at Georgetown.

These medals were divided between the Swimming Championships hosted in St. Michael Barbados and the remaining athletic events hosted in Kingston, Jamaica.

Zachary Burke, Tariq Greenidge, Heidi Stoute, Victor Ashby, Omari Sealy, Kai Trotman, Storme Collymore and Jaiya Simmons placed either second or first in their respective events at the Aquatic Centre with Simmons taking home 7 gold medals and setting a new national record of 30. 69 in the girls 11-12 50m butterfly.

While at the games in Jamaica, Nya Browne won bronze in the U20 girls’ 100m hurdles, Layla Haynes won silver in the U20 girls’ 800m, and Fynn Armstrong won gold in the U17 3000.

In the final event of the 49th edition of the CARIFTA Games, Barbados’ momentum did not slowed as the team of Josiah Parris, Aren Spencer, Jahleel Armstrong and Ross Walrond placed third in the Boys U20 400 meter relay.

Kevon Hinds, who won bronze in the U20 Shot Put, when speaking to Nation News’ Anmar Goodridge stated how pleased he was with his team’s performance and will be carrying home his bronze medal with a smile.

He also thanked those at home (in Barbados) for their support.

At the closing ceremony of this year’s games, it was announced that the 50th edition of CARIFTA Games will be held in The Bahamas.
