Barbados team leaves for CARIFTA Games

Barbados will be competing at this year’s CARIFTA Games in Kingston, Jamaica.

The members of the team and head coach Ramon Armstrong left Barbados to participate in the games over the Easter weekend, which are scheduled to begin on Saturday. 

The 49th edition of the CARIFTA games, which is the first since the COVID-19 pandemic, are being anticipated by track and field enthusiasts across the Caribbean.

The Barbados Team, which is being managed by Angela Jackson includes: Ashlyn Simmons and Kadia Rock in the Under 17 girls; Kishawna Niles, Nya Browne, Shadae Worrell, Rickayla Fagan, Vivica Addision, Layla Haynes, and Vanessa Greaves. 

Meanwhile Fynn Armstrong will represent the Under 17 boys and the under 20 boys will be represented by Josiah Parris, Ross Walrond, Aren Spencer, Jahleel Armstrong, Amani Mascoll-Beckles, Nikkolai Kennedy, and Kevon Hinds.

This is the eighth time that Jamaica will host this event and their national team will go after its 44th title. The Games are being staged under the endorsement of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC).

The CARIFTA Games were founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association and the first games were held in Barbados in 1972.
