The Soup Bowl in Bathsheba triumphantly came alive yesterday as Chelsea Tuach recorded her first win of the Barbados Surf Pro QS 3000, much to the delight of her adoring fans.

The 26-year-old outstanding surfer defeated American Sawyer Lindbald in an electrifying final heat that lasted 35 minutes, in glistening waters and under a blue sky with cumulus clouds.

“I feel good… it has been a long week to keep my composure especially competing at home, but it felt like I was getting the waves and I was in a really good rhythm… I was full of joy and really happy to be competing out here,” Tuach said.

The pressure, she added, was one of the main things she felt throughout the competition as she “did not want to give away the title and I know all of the [other] girls were ripping”.

In Tuach’s first and third waves, the three-time super bowl junior winner recorded scores of 6.67 and 8.33 respectively – an overall 15.00.

Lindbald totalled 9.60 with best scores 5.17 and 4.43 which proved to be challenging in comparison to Tuach’s recordings.

In the final five minutes, Lindbald was tasked with recording 9.87, two turns and a peak, but was unsuccessful in doing so before time elapsed.

This resulted in Tuach winning her first QS title, fourth WSL Soup Bowl crown and taking home the cash prize of BBD $8 000.00.
