Assistant Registrar of Examinations at the Barbados Community College (BCC) Makeda Hart is urging students to wear their masks while on the campus.

Hart explained that too many students are lapsing when it comes to wearing their masks. Often times they are seen with their masks below their nose, below their chin or completely off.

Signage has been created and placed in strategic parts of the college, where students frequent the most, in an attempt to constantly remind them to wear their masks. Such locations include all guard stops at the entrance and exits of the college, as well as by the students’ clinic, the canteen and in hallways of the different divisions.

Nonetheless, Hart says that a number of students have not been adhering to the rule of wearing masks. Although it is not necessary to wear a mask in all classes, when traversing the campus, sitting in groups or going to any offices or businesses on campus a mask must be worn at all times.

Student Kaleb Ifill stated that he understood why masks needed to be worn on campus and he did not have a problem with wearing them. However, student Shonte Broomes explained that, “Wearing masks is really hard because it is hard to breath and is very uncomfortable and I just think we should find an alternative way to protect ourselves and others, other than wearing masks.”
