The election of the Democratic Labour Party’s newest President Dr. Ronnie Yearwood may just mean a proper chance for the DLP to properly rebrand, rebuild and shake off the damage caused by the Freundel Stuart Administration.

So says noted young political scientist Devaron Bruce. While speaking to The Wallpaper Bruce said that the win for Dr. Yearwood could mean a hopeful future for the party.

“Regarding the old guard as you call it, I would say that it’s a step in the right direction that the Democratic Labour Party has been able to recognize that the legacy of the Freundel Stuart administration continues to haunt it electorally and so succession planning of the party is now in the hands of younger individuals such as Dr. Yearwood and certainly I think it is a step in the right direction,” he said.

Bruce added that he believes the DLP has a possible chance within the next general elections.

“I would say that pendulums swing and I would think that within five years the DLP would certainly improve its standing particularly behind Dr. Ronnie Yearwood, who is a young individual who attracts a lot of interest and attention,” he said.

“I believe he can catapult the DLP into the 21st century but there must be a focus on rebuilding, [improving] management, and rebranding. Electioneering can come later. For me, that has to be the focus.”
