Phase Three of the Constitution River Project in Bridgetown will conclude in six weeks.

This project, which has been ongoing for 18 months, is one aspect of the transformation of Bridgetown.

The Project Manager for C.O. Williams Construction, Steven Miller, explained that for the last 18 months the team has been working down at basin level excavating a new canal and a dam was constructed to obstruct the natural flow of water from the careenage.

This required them to continually pump massive amounts of water out of the area to allow them to progress uninterruptedly with the extremely technical procedure.

“Today, the main event that’s going to be happening to close off the main phase of this project, is that we are going to cut a track through that dam and allow the tide to flood the main river overnight," he said.

"After today over the next week, we will still be doing some final excavations to take the dam out and for a matter of weeks after today, we will be doing some minor works on the periphery, some road works and some cleaning up. Today is the main event and by tomorrow we’re going to have a full flooded river right up to the James A. Tudor roundabout," Miller explained.

Miller added that the project had its challenges but he is happy with the result and expressed that it will be a pleasant sight for everyone in Bridgetown.
